Mini ep. 5: Family Fortunes

It was a normal day, in late February, when Elizabeth had got up, at what she called early. At 9 in the morning. She was reading the paper, while watching GMTV, when Kate Garraway, the presenter said “And this is weird, there are reports of an Octopus shaped spaceship coming to land in Hyde Park. Hang on this is definitely true and I’m afraid that we will have to go over to our news teams, who will be reporting this story. Hope to see you later.” The channel blipped and on came a new studio with a scared news presenter sitting at a desk.

“We have reports of a ship landing and the doors of the ship seem to be opening,” the scared presenter said.
“Hey come look at this,” Elizabeth shouted to Colin, who was in the dining room. Colin walked into the room, then there was a bang on the door.
“Is it those aliens,” Colin said, pointing to the pictures on the TV where 8 armed metallic aliens were marching from the ship.
“No, see they are only just emerging from the ship,” Elizabeth told him so Colin went to the door.
“Dad I got here as soon as I could, my house is quite near the park and I saw it land,” Richard said very fast.

On the TV the presenter was saying “They are starting to attack homes nearby so watch out.” The picture on the screen showed the aliens marching closer and closer, until loads of them formed a circle. The screen on their TV flickered.
“I am afraid that the pictures have gone,” the presenter said “These aliens have just taken out all the cameras in the area.”
“Quick change channel see if there’s some other channel with the reports on,” Colin told Elizabeth, who changed the channel. Georgia’s family had sky, so they could get onto hundreds of TV channels. Elizabeth switched onto an American channel and up popped Trinity Wells.
“We have some incoming news! There has been a reported attack by Extraterrestrials with eight arms in the UK area of London. We are advising people to stay in their homes, and get off of the streets,” Trinity Wells said.
Elizabeth frowned and said, “No that isn’t new, we want some proper news, where are they attacking?” Colin looked out the window and backed away as he heard a bang.
“Bet that was Mr. Perkins again he’s always setting off them fireworks!” Elizabeth said as there was a bang at the door. “I’ll get it”, Elizabeth told the two men.
“Mum you do know that Mr. Perkins is dead,” Richard mentioned and his mum stopped, “He died of a heart attack a year ago.”
“Woops. Ah well it was probably just...” Elizabeth said as she opened the door, saw an Octopli standing in the porch and Elizabeth slammed the door and locked it. “They’re here. They’re at our front door.”
Colin ran through into the room and Richard ran upstairs to find some sort of a weapon, while Colin and Elizabeth held back the door. Suddenly, there was a smash and the old cat flap flipped open. Through the cat flap poked one of the aliens tentacles; it started swinging side to side trying to grab hold of one of the two humans. Elizabeth jumped in the air as the tentacle swung by, but then Colin grabbed a vase and smashed in on the tentacle which retreated back through the cat flap.

“My best vase you idiot,” Elizabeth shouted, but then they hugged. They only hugged for a few seconds, as there was a huge smash and the Octopli smashed through the front window. The family ran in and saw the Octopli recovering, then growling. It stood on the TV remote which turned the sound up loud and turned on EastEnders. Peggy Mitchell was shouting, when suddenly the screen blipped and another TV presenter appeared on screen.
“We interrupt this probably interesting TV program with some breaking news. Eight-legged monsters are attacking London. We urge people to stay in their homes. We have reports that workers on the Spidership are asking to come back to their loved ones. Thank you. That is all. Now back to day time TV”, the presenter finished and EastEnders appeared back on screen. The Octopli then turned to the family.

“I am Captain Ocraxian and now you will die!” the Octopli shouted, as Richard ran into the room with a BB gun and started firing at it. Elizabeth ran off and came back into the room with a cup of water. She through the cup over the octopli and then sneered. Her smile faded when she realised the water hadn’t done anything. The octopli stood up tall and flexed his metallic arms.
“You attacked an octopli now you will die!” Captain Ocraxian snarled. He was about to fire when Colin quickly chucked a huge table at the Octopli. The table pushed the Octopi into the TV, which electrocuted him. He was knocked out.
“Its cause of the water I threw at him,” Elizabeth said triumphantly.
“Son I didn’t know you had a BB gun,” Colin asked his son, who replied with a, “Err well I got it, when err, after the Earth got transported through err space.” They all then had a strong cup of coffee and weren’t disturbed for a while.

Later there was a knock at the door.
“Who is it now,” Elizabeth asked, as she opened the door and saw around 10 Octopli at the door. Elizabeth screamed and ran into the front room. She was followed by 10 or more Octopli, the Octopli who had been attacked by them was starting to wake up.
“You will die,” the Octopli chanted, but then there was a bleeping sound and the Octopli looked at a device on their body.
“It says abort the invasion. Come on no buts,” Captain Ocraxian said, as he woke up and jumped through the smashed window, followed by the other Octopli. The family gave a sigh of relief and Colin and Richard sat down on the sofa.

“What are you doing dear?” Colin asked Elizabeth, who was putting her coat on.
“I’m off to buy a new TV,” Elizabeth replied.
