Episode 2: TimeSpan Part 2

Conner pulled Holly to the floor and the bat creatures flew over their heads. Conner looked up and saw they walked like Humans, but had wings and claws. He got to his feet, and stared defiantly at the creatures. He was not going down without a fight. Holly stood up next to him. She looked at him sadly.

“Who are you?” she asked the bat creatures.
“Us? Who are you, but a talking feast?” one creature said.

The other creatures laughed, and Conner pulled Holly behind them.

“We are Krillitanes, and we’re here to gobble you up!”

Georgia screamed as the scratching of claws increased against the wall of the lift. Another large dent appeared in the wall, but this time it was bigger. Georgia climbed on the dent, which was like a platform, and reached for the roof of the lift above. She managed to reach the ceiling panel above, and lifted the hatch on top of the lift. She heaved herself up just as the lift was nearly completely crushed. She screamed and pulled herself away from the large furry head of the Werewolf that was sniffing inside. Looking above, Georgia realised there was a ladder she could climb. Clutching the first rung, she began to climb away from the Werewolf who was pulling the lift to pieces.

The Doctor and Kirsty reached cells HJR when they saw Miss Swade for the first time. She raised her sonic pen in triumph.

“So, Doctor, we meet at last,” Miss Swade said, as professional as ever.
“So we do!” the Doctor smiled. “And who are you?”
“Miss Swade, Head of the TimeSpan Complex,” Miss Swade replied. “And your friend is…?”
“Kirsty. Kirsty… Something,” the Doctor said, unsure of her last name.
“Kirsty Purcell,” Kirsty said defiantly staring at Miss Swade.
“Ah. I see, your companion,” Miss Swade said, looking down her nose at Kirsty.
“Well, not technically,” the Doctor said. “She doesn’t travel with me.”
“A prisoner?” Miss Swade asked in mocking scandalous tones.
“Why do you ask? Don’t you keep any records of us prisoners? Of course… Everyone’s broken out, so I guess it is a little hard…” Kirsty said patronisingly.
“Anyway…” the Doctor said. “Why are you imprisoning people? And, just who are you?”
“Miss Swade, I told you,” Miss Swade said, “and only our prisoners are allowed to divulge why they were locked up.”
“Enough rubbish,” Kirsty said “we want straight facts. I don’t know why I was imprisoned, and nor does anybody else I’m guessing.”
“Very well. My name is Miss Swade, but I come from the Calstrop Galaxy. I am an Imprisoner, and I’m just doing my job,” Miss Swade said. “But since you know too much, I’ll have to kill you.”
“What you gonna do – sonic us?” Kirsty asked, unworried.
“Not you – the prison cells, which happen to contain deadly creatures,” Miss Swade said, raising the sonic screwdriver.
“Ah. Before… Before you do that, could we – could we maybe have a few minutes?” the Doctor asked.
“What for?” Miss Swade asked.
“Just goodbyes,” the Doctor said.
“Very well,” Miss Swade said, walking over to a cell door, and running her fingers along the catch on the door of it.

The Doctor pulled Kirsty aside, with his serious face back on.

“We can stop her,” the Doctor said. “But first I need to ask you – will you come with me? If we get out of this alive – will you come with me through time and space? In the TARDIS, with Georgia and Me?”
“Georgia?!” Kirsty asked, feeling jealous.
“It’s fine, she’ll get on with you great,” the Doctor said. “So, will you?”
“Um… Yeah, I guess so,” Kirsty said. “Oh my God! I’m travelling with you in the… TARDIS! That’s it! Oh my God!”
“Good. Now, let’s stop this.”

Conner raised his gun, and the six approaching Krillitanes halted. One braver Krillitane stepped forwards.

“Stop!” Conner ordered. “Or I’ll shoot!”
“You can’t shoot all of us,” the bravest Krillitane said, continuing to advance.
“No, but I can help,” Holly said, raising her gun as well.

The brave Krillitane halted as well. He nodded at the others, and with a crack, they transformed into Humans. Conner lowered his gun slightly, but kept it up enough to warn them.

“You see? We cannot hurt you any longer,” the brave Krillitane said.
“Fine, but you stay away from us,” Conner warned.
“We want to come with you,” another Krillitane said.
“What for? Why would you want to come with us?” Conner asked.
“To stop the people who imprisoned us, and to protect you two,” one Krillitane said.
“I don’t believe the second one,” Holly said.
“Nor me, but what can we do? They’ll find the people at head office anyway, and we could do with some protection,” Conner said.
“Fine, but they go in front at all times,” Holly said. “That way they can’t do a surprise attack.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” one Krillitane said cheekily.
“Lead on.”

Georgia ran over to the Guard, and smiled to show she wasn’t any harm. He smiled nervously back at her. He was brown haired, with a muscular build, and was handsome.

“Hey!” Georgia said. “What’s your name?”
“Guard Daniels, but you can call me Ben,” Ben said, blushing.
“What happened here?” Georgia asked.
“Some nut released all the aliens,” Ben said.
“Nice one Doctor…” Georgia muttered sarcastically.
“Sorry?” Ben asked.
“Nothing,” Georgia said, smiling forcefully.
“Anyway, someone let the prisoners free, and they killed Miss Swade and Mr Braithwaite. The prisoners, I mean, not the weirdo who released them.”
“Then what happened?” Georgia asked.
“The prisoners killed the pilots of the complex, and we crashed into this god forsaken planet,” Ben said, annoyed.
“And what are you doing now?” Georgia asked him.
“I’m trying to sort through the wreckage to see if any of my mates, the Guards who I worked with, survived,” Ben said.
“Good luck,” Georgia said quietly.
“Thank you.”
“Did you want any help?” Georgia asked, lifting some rubble.
“Yeah. Sure! Thanks!”

The Doctor and Kirsty slammed the door to the cupboard shut, and the Doctor Sonicked it. He was now carrying Miss Swade’s sonic pen.

“I can’t believe we shoved her in a cupboard!” Kirsty laughed.
“Solves every problem, a cupboard does. Especially if it’s big enough to fit the TARDIS in. New mates all round!” the Doctor smiled at the memory of meeting Conner and Zac for the first time.
“I don’t know whether anyone’s ever told you this, but you’re strange…!” Kirsty said. “You just talk rubbish!”

She began to laugh, and soon the Doctor was joining in. They both stood in the corridor, giggling, unable to stop. Meanwhile, a few minutes away, the Werewolf finished ripping the lift apart, and smelt blood.

Georgia pulled herself up what she thought was the 76th rung. She had been counting, but lost count when a bang at the bottom of the lift shaft startled her. Suddenly the ladder shook, as if the ladder had gained weight. Looking down, Georgia saw what she could only describe as a fat-alien man thing. It looked up and saw her looking at him. He began to scrabble up the ladder as fast as he could. Georgia began to climb to get away from him.

“What are you?” she called down at him.
“I’m the Abzorbaloff. And I smell Doctor!”

Guards Pokaski, Kristoph and Blunt surveyed the wreckage of corridor 67. They were the only survivors of the alien’s attack, except a few who were in the hospital. The corridor was now deserted; all the aliens had fled, or escaped to find head office, for revenge. Mr Braithwaite had barricaded himself in his office, but Miss Swade had disappeared. Guard Pokaski didn’t hold out much hope for either of them, after all, they had both imprisoned creatures full of hate and revenge. He didn’t hold out much hope for the Doctor either. He had released the monsters from their cells, and Guard Pokaski knew he would be the one to kill the Doctor if he got the chance. At the sound of footsteps Guard Pokaski looked up. He alerted Guards Kristoph and Blunt, and all three raised their guns.

The Doctor and Kirsty skidded to a halt in front of the three Guards, whose guns were raised. He grabbed her hand and hauled her around, and together they ran off in the opposite direction.

Georgia climbed out through a door in the top of the lift shaft, as the Abzorbaloff got about three quarters of the way up. She slammed the door and ran off in the opposite direction. She ran past two people, but they were blurs as she burst round the corner. She no longer heard the Abzorbaloff’s excited footsteps following her, but still did not risk stopping.

The Doctor and Kirsty ran past someone in the corridor, but continued running as they thought they heard the footsteps of the Guards. They ran round a corridor and saw a crushed lift, and standing next to it a Werewolf. Again halting, they ran off in the opposite direction, with the Werewolf chasing them.

“Oh my God! Is it always like this for you Doctor?” Kirsty asked, as they outran the Werewolf, and stopped for breath for two seconds.
“Oh yes!” the Doctor said. “Come on!”

They ran on again as the Werewolf came hurtling round the corner.

Guards Pokaski, Kristoph and Blunt stopped as they saw a fat green alien in the corridor.

“What are you?” Guard Kristoph asked, with a foreign accent.
“The Abzorbaloff,” the fat green creature replied, turning to them.
“And what’s an Abzorbatrix? Abzorbatron – no – Abzorbaloff anyway?” Guard Blunt asked with a posh English accent.
“I absorb people,” the Abzorbaloff replied.
“Absorb?” Guard Blunt asked with posh disgust.
“They taste like chicken,” the Abzorbaloff said, advancing on the three Guards. “And I’m hungry!”

Conner, Holly and the Krillitanes had been walking for a long time. Having been unable to find a map of the complex, Conner wasn’t sure if they’d been down this corridor several times before. Holly’s feet were hurting so she had taken off her shoes. Her purple tights made the floor slippery for Holly, so she was forced to cling onto Conner. Not that she minded. They reached a corner, and the Krillitanes crept round it first. A scream made Holly jump, but it made Conner gasp – he knew that scream!

Conner pushed Holly out of the way, and she slid across the corridor in her tights. Conner pushed past all the Krillitanes hurriedly so he was at the front of the group. It was only then that he saw her – Georgia Bell. Georgia gasped as she saw Conner at the end of the corridor, surrounded by bat creatures. She thought it was a trick of the mind until she saw his massive grin.

“Oh my God!” Georgia said quietly.
“Oh my God!” Conner muttered under his breath.
“You’re alive!” Georgia thought to herself.
“I’m alive!” Conner thought to himself.

Conner began to run towards her as fast as his legs could carry him, down the impossibly long corridor. Georgia saw him running, and ran at him, with tears in her eyes. They were a couple of steps apart, flinging their arms open, ready to hug. They were gasping and crying and wondering how the other was there, on the TimeSpan ship, spinning in a lonely part of space, drifting towards Earth.

To be continued…
