And Rena Peakes
With: Daniel Bailey, Kasper Nowak, Bernardyn, Mr. Yendell, Annie Roscastle and the Wooshby

Rena Peakes walked down a crowded street; she had done for a while now, ever since she’d moved closer to her work, which had also moved. Everything was moving in Rena’s life, she was nearly 30, and she’d finally fallen in love. His name was Kasper Nowak, he was from Poland and he was very handsome. His English was almost perfect and sometimes you could hardly tell he was polish at all. Rena hardly noticed where she was walking until she reached her office block. She had been thinking about seeing Kasper again that day. Kasper was an electrician, and he had been working at the Office Block for a couple of weeks, relaying wires all around the building, with his friend Bernardyn.

Rena passed Daniel Bailey as she entered the building. Rena always had an urge to hit him in the face, as he was so useless and annoying. Daniel had been Head of Human Resources for a while now. The girls all found him annoying as he fancied most of them and wolf-whistled whenever any of them passed him. Rena, however, had been promoted so next time Daniel tried anything she would have a real go at him. Maybe this morning was that time.

“Hey Rena,” Daniel said, he was eating profiteroles from a plastic container.
“Good morning,” Rena said quickly, turning to face Daniel. Daniel stared at Rena and licked some cream off his finger slowly. Rena looked disgusted.
“Do you want a profiterole?” Daniel asked, “I’ve got loads to give out in my office.”
“That’s enough of that,” Rena snapped.
“Don’t take that tone of voice with me,” Daniel replied seriously, “I am more qualified than you and more senior than you.”
“You?” Rena answered loudly, as many people in the large reception area turned to see what was going on, “Your as qualified as a dung beetle that doesn’t even know how to roll dung, and I’ll have you know that I have been promoted and I am just as superior as you.” The Receptionist Annie Roscastle applauded, she had put up with Daniel for three years now and it was nice to see somebody have a go at him.

“I shall have words with your supervisor about you,” Daniel hissed at Rena, he looked very agitated, which Rena found very amusing.
“None of us girls approve of your brushing close to us in the corridors, or wolf-whistling whenever we pass you,” Rena continued, she was enjoying this, “Daniel, we’ve had enough of your innuendos and your crude jokes, if you don’t leave us alone soon then we’ll all sign a petition to get you fired.” The women watching all applauded and some of the men did too.
“As I said, I’m going to speak to your supervisor,” Daniel snapped, marching snobbishly past the crowd, some of which were sniggering.

Suddenly, there was a smashing noise and the glass double doors at the entrance of the building shattered as something huge and purple smashed through it. It was holding a strange device in its hand. It looked up with huge yellow eyes and blasted a man near the door into ashes with a black, revolver like weapon. Several people screamed and Rena began to run up the stairs, Daniel Bailey was frozen to the spot.

Rena reached the first floor landing; she looked down to see people running in screaming. Annie Roscastle had hidden under the reception desk. The purple monster had set fire to the reception areas potted palm tree and blasted several other people into ashes. Daniel Bailey was still frozen to the spot. Rena realised that whatever he had done, he didn’t deserve to die. She pushed past several people and ran back down the stairs. The Purple Monster was holding up its strange device and moving it around, it seemed to be emitting a strange beeping noise.
“Where is it?” the purple monster snarled as Rena reached the bottom of the stairs, “Where’s the key?”

Rena grabbed Daniel’s hand and Daniel suddenly shook himself, looked down to see his hand in Rena’s and smiled. Rena slapped him and dragged him towards the stairs. The purple monster saw them and roared.
“Run you idiot!” Rena said to Daniel, who began to run after Rena up back up the stairs.
“I am running,” Daniel replied.
“Well, run faster,” Rena answered, “Honestly you’re always in the office gym.”
“That’s because I like watching… the rowing machine,” Daniel muttered, as they reached the first floor landing.
“Duck!” Rena shouted, as the purple monster aimed its gun at them. Rena pulled Daniel to the ground, but his arm flailed above him and his hand was hit by the monster’s gun.
“Daniel?” Rena said, as Daniel began to breathe heavily.
“My hand,” Daniel said, “Oh God I’m sorry.” Daniel’s hand had turned black and suddenly, Daniel disintegrated into dust, leaving a grey patch where Daniel had lay.

“Girlie!” the monster shouted, “You’re next!” The monster began to climb the stairs and as soon as Rena spotted him, she began running up the next flight of stairs.
The purple monster reached the first floor and opened the door to the office. He marched inside to find several people crouched behind desks.
“Bye, bye!” the monster said, leering and closing the door to the office.

Rena kept running until she reached the fifth floor, where she stopped for breath. As she did so a noise filled the air, a noise that she hadn’t heard for 2 years, the noise of the TARDIS dematerialising. Rena looked around to see where the noise was coming from. She ran into a large room full of desks, where there were several people working.

“What are you all doing here?” Rena asked, “There’s a monster downstairs.”
“Rena, are you alright?” Mr Yendell, the Head of the company that Rena worked for, said.
“I’m fine, but there’s a monster, an alien, it’s got a gun,” Rena replied, “Didn’t you hear the screaming?” There was a loud high pitched scream and everyone in the office looked shocked.
“Now I do,” Mr. Yendell replied.
“Oh no, where’s Kasper?” Rena asked, remembering her boyfriend. She ran back onto the landing and almost walked into the TARDIS; standing next to the TARDIS was the Doctor.
“Doctor?” Rena said in a shocked voice.
“Rena Peakes, you need me I think,” the Doctor replied.
“Well, yes, but how did you know there was a huge purple monster downstairs?” Rena asked.
“Intuition,” the Doctor answered simply. The TARDIS doors opened and Conner, Georgia and Korena stepped out.

“Hey, it’s whatshername,” Conner said in greeting.
“Nice to see you too, Conner,” Rena replied.
“I remember your name Rena, I'd say it’s lovely to see you again but there’s a bit of a situation am I right?” Georgia asked.
“Yes,” Rena began.
“Lets get to work,” the Doctor said, “Conner come with me, Georgia can you help Rena find her boyfriend.”
“How did you know I was looking for him?” Rena asked in a demanding voice.
“Intuition,” the Doctor said, as he smiled.

“What about me?” Korena asked the Doctor.
“Ah yes, Korena you can,” the Doctor began.
“Korena?” Rena asked, “Wow Korena, Rena.”
“Wow your names have the same ending,” Conner said sarcastically, “How interesting.”
“Korena’s a film star from the future,” Georgia explained.
“Wow, I’m an office worker from your past,” Rena replied, “Not very exciting, I’m afraid.”
“No it’s not,” Conner commented rudely.
“Conner!” Georgia snapped.

“Look hurry up, Korena you can come with me and Conner,” the Doctor said, “Hurry up!” The Doctor took out his sonic screwdriver and led Korena and Conner down the stairs towards the monster as Rena and Georgia headed in the opposite direction. As the Doctor reached the landing of the next floor down, he spotted the monster smashing through a wall two floors below.

“What’s that?” Korena asked with a look of disgust on her face.
“It’s purple, it has high tech equipment, it’s large,” the Doctor said aloud as he worked out what it was.
“Hurry up, it’s climbing the stairs,” Conner pointed out.
“It has yellow eyes, so the pigment is…” the Doctor said, “Of course it’s a Wooshby!”
“A what?” Korena asked.
“It doesn’t matter,” the Doctor replied, as the monster spotted them.
“Watch out!” Korena exclaimed, as the Wooshby fired his gun at them and missed.
“Don’t worry,” the Doctor said, “Wooshby are very thick creatures, terrible aim!” The Wooshby fired his gun again and Conner had to duck to avoid being shot.
“Yeah terrible aim,” Conner said sarcastically.
“I meant pretty thick,” the Doctor said, “Come on!” The Doctor ran into an office, whose occupants had been evacuated through the back staircase. Korena and Conner followed him.

“So what are we going to do?” Korena asked, “And why is it here?”
“I KNOW YOU’RE HERE!” the Wooshby roared, “I will find you, key!”
“Who’s key?” Korena asked.
“How should I know?” the Doctor answered, “Now we need to find some sandwiches.”
“Why?” Conner asked, “Are we having a picnic? I don’t think so.”
“Sandwiches make Wooshby vomit violently,” the Doctor explained.
“Great so we’re gonna make a Wooshby eat something it hates,” Conner said.
“Ah but they don’t realise they hate them until they come across sandwiches in the 24th century,” the Doctor explained, “The year 2355 to be exact.”
“Hooray more dates, that’s what I love,” Conner said sarcastically.
“I find it mildly interesting,” Korena muttered.

Georgia and Rena ran up another flight of stairs and they almost ran into the men’s toilets. Rena could hear a drilling noise inside.
“Kasper must be in there,” Rena said.
“Who’s Kasper, is he that friendly ghost?” Georgia asked.
“No he’s my boyfriend,” Rena replied, “Kasper!” There was no reply, just the continuous drilling from inside the toilet.
“Is he… a toilet fixer?” Georgia asked.
“No he’s an electrician actually,” Rena replied, “He’s been fixing and replacing wires all round the building, I don’t know what he’s doing in the toilet.”
“Isn’t it dangerous to have plug sockets in toilets in case water splashes on it?” Georgia asked, Rena did not reply but she shouted Kasper’s name again and then looked at Georgia.

“We’re going to have to go in there,” Rena said.
“Eww,” Georgia said, and then added, “All right, you go in first.” Rena walked into the toilet to find two men drilling several holes in the wall, one of the men spotted Rena and indicated to the other man to stop drilling.
v “Rena, are you OK?” the first man said standing up, “We were about to replace the wires in this wall, we would do it in the next room, but that’s the girl’s toilets. These wires actually lead from the office on this floor to the next floor.”
“Yeah, stop talking Kasper,” Rena said quickly.

“What’s going on?” the second man asked.
“There’s a monster downstairs Bernardyn, haven’t you heard the screaming?” Rena asked, “God why doesn’t anybody hear anything.”

“I’m Georgia by the way,” Georgia said stepping out from the doorway, “Can we get out of here now, this room really smells of…”
“Yes let’s go!” Rena ordered.
“A monster?” Kasper asked.
“No seriously don’t men ever clean these toilets?” Georgia asked.
“Our cleaners are all women, except Max but he’s…” Kasper began.
“NO TIME!” Rena shouted, “Now out!”

“So you’re Kasper then since nobody’s going to introduce me,” Georgia said to Kasper.
“That’s right, this is my friend Bernardyn,” Kasper introduced.
“Nice to meet you,” Bernardyn said and he and Georgia shook hands. At that Rena literally forced Kasper, Bernardyn and Georgia out of the toilet and back into the corridor.

“Right Rena, you get those two out, I’ll go join the Doctor,” Georgia ordered.
“I want to see what happens,” Rena demanded.
“All right, you two get yourselves out,” Georgia told the two men.
“What’s going on?” Kasper asked.
“You’ve already said, don’t they listen?” Georgia asked Rena.
“Sometimes I’m not sure,” Rena replied, “Now go both of you, I’ll see you in a bit.”
“I’m not leaving you with some monster,” Kasper replied.
“Watch it! I’m not that bad,” Georgia snapped.
“I promise I’ll be fine, I’ll see you in a minute,” Rena said, and she kissed Kasper. Georgia and Bernardyn looked at each other and smiled weakly.
“Come on now you’re holding us up!” Georgia growled.
“All right,” Rena said, “Bye darling!”
“Bye!” Kasper said as he ran off.

The Doctor, Korena and Conner were searching desks in the office when they heard the Wooshby smash into a room nearby; there were a few screams and a roar from the Wooshby.

“Seriously, how hard is it to find a sandwich,” Conner said, “Doesn’t anybody have sandwiches for lunch. Maybe they’re all extremely posh.”
“It was an earl who invented the sandwich,” the Doctor explained.
“Yay more facts,” Conner commented sarcastically.
“We still have sandwiches,” Korena replied, “In the future I mean.”
“Can we stop talking and find,” Conner snapped.
“I found some, ergh corn beef,” the Doctor said, pulling some sandwiches out of a draw.
“How are we supposed to trick the beast into eating the sandwich anyway?” Korena asked.
“I’ll think of something,” the Doctor replied.

Georgia and Rena rushed down the stairs and stopped on one of the landings. Georgia looked around, so did Rena.
“It’s too quiet,” Rena commented.
“Maybe it’s gone?” Georgia suggested.
“I don’t think so,” Rena replied.
“Maybe it’s… THERE!” Georgia shrieked, as the Wooshby smashed out of an office, and pointed his gun at Rena and Georgia, who instinctively ran into the next office, where the Doctor looked up.

“It’s coming!” Rena screamed, slamming the door behind her and Georgia.
“It doesn’t look friendly,” Georgia added.
“That’s because it isn’t,” the Doctor said, “It’s a Wooshby, they’re rather nasty.”
“But pretty thick,” Korena added smiling.
“Don’t worry though, the Doctor’s got sandwiches,” Conner replied sarcastically, as the monster smashed into the room.

“We surrender!” the Doctor exclaimed, and Conner, Georgia, Korena and Rena all put their hands on their heads. The Wooshby looked at them and leered.
“Which one of you is the key?” the Wooshby asked, as the Doctor took the sandwich out of his pocket.
“We don’t know what you’re talking about,” Korena replied.
“Oh really, I think you’d know something like this,” the Wooshby sneered, and then he saw the Doctor, who had began to eat the corn beef sandwich.

“What?” the Doctor asked, as the Wooshby stared at him, “It’s lovely, honestly. I’m so hungry.” The Wooshby snatched the sandwich off the Doctor and knocked him to the floor. Georgia and Rena rushed over to him.
“I’m hungry too,” the Wooshby snapped, “What is this?”
“It’s a sandwich, it’s really tasty,” Rena replied, “Looks like corned beef, delicious.”
“But I don’t think you’d like it,” Conner added.
“Whatever,” the Wooshby replied as he swallowed the sandwich whole. The Wooshby looked around at the humans and the Doctor before frowing and keeling over.

“That was horrible,” the Doctor said spitting out the sandwich.
“Well it is corned beef,” Rena replied, “Do you think that thing’s all right?”
“It looks dead to me,” Korena replied, prodding it with her foot.
“Woops, I thought it would just make him vomit,” the Doctor replied, “I didn’t mean to kill it.”
“But it’s killed loads of people,” Rena replied.
“I wanted to know why it was here,” the Doctor replied.
“Now we’ll never find out,” Korena commented, staring at the Wooshby, whose eyes were wide and staring.

It was a few minutes later when the survivors had all gathered in the reception. Annie Roscastle looked traumatized, while Kasper and Bernardyn looked confused.
“I’m going to check who isn’t here,” Mr. Yendell said, looking down at his list of names, “I’ll read out your names like on a fire drill.”
“Kasper, see I’m fine,” Rena said to Kasper, as the Doctor, Georgia, Conner and Korena slipped away and Mr. Yendell continued to read out the names of the workers.
“I’m glad you’re ok,” Kasper replied, “What about your friend, Georgia?”
“She’s fine, she’s… gone!” Rena exclaimed, “They left without saying goodbye, the mysterious crew of the mysterious police box. Maybe I can catch them!” Rena ran up the stairs, until she reached the floor where the TARDIS was. It was still there, but there was no sign of the others.

“Doctor!” Rena exclaimed, and the TARDIS doors opened.
“We were going to just slip away,” the Doctor commented, poking his head round the doors.
“Will we ever meet again?” Rena asked.
“I have a feeling we will,” the Doctor commented, “Are you Kasper then?” The Doctor opened the TARDIS doors a little wider to reveal Georgia, Conner and Korena.
“Yes, that’s me,” Kasper replied, looking a little confused.
“Look after Rena, goodbye,” the Doctor said.
“Doctor where’s the alien’s body?” Rena asked.
“It’s in the TARDIS, don’t worry about it,” the Doctor explained.

“See you Rena!” Korena said.
“Maybe next time there won’t be a Wooshby trying to kill us all,” Conner added as Georgia waved.
“Well then, goodbye,” Rena said, and Kasper waved as the Doctor closed the TARDIS doors and it began to dematerialise.
“Who was that?” Kasper asked Rena.
“That was the Doctor,” Rena answered simply, and she began to walk away, sighing.

THE END
